Sr. Design Engineer - Powertrain Polaris Location Wyoming, MN State MN Department 722 Employment Status Full-time Job Description Responsible for leading the design process of Offroad Vehicle Powertrain components and systems from concept to production in order to achieve the product objectives within a specified time. Position will be highly focused on improving quality, reliability, and cost reduction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Establishes a reasonable design schedule from concept to production implementation for all responsible components and systems, inline with overall business requirements. 2. Supports all design related component warranty, incident reports, purchasing, and manufacturing issues with emphasis on quality, reliability, timely delivery, and cost. 3. Determines ideal component manufacturing route to ensure overall design, performance, and cost conformance. 4. Determines nature and type of electronic models, detail drawings, and analysis required to support the above and supervises their release through the release cycle using PRS. 5. Coordinate, mentor, and supervise designers within team. 6. Uses the Preliminary Design Review and Critical Design Review process to insure designs are robust. Participates in design reviews on projects to ensure adequate input and involvement from all interested groups. 7. Analyzes field warranty problems and testing incidence reports and recommends possible solutions. 8. Creation of component and system specifications as related to the Powertrain project 9. Creation, monitoring and prioritization of DFMEA and DVP&R plans related to the Powertrain project 10. Performs other miscellaneous project related assignments as needed.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE 1. Minimum requirement of a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering or equivalent 2. 5 years minimum related design experience in an O.E.M. Environment is required 3. Experience with Pro-Engineer CAD and Ansys Workbench Analysis tool is desired 4. Professional design experience in the following Powertrain design categories: Core engine design of rotating components, lubrication, and power cylinder. Peripheral engine systems (induction, exhaust, cooling), Bolted joints and fasteners, Aluminum castings (high and low pressure) and forgings, Machining processes, Electrical component specification and packaging. 5. Experience with GD&T, FMEA, and dimensional tolerance stack-ups. 6. Strong technical knowledge as demonstrated by academic experience 7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 8. High interest in Engines and Powersports products (Off and On Road Vehicles) 9. High level of people skills, able to work in a team environment. 10. Ability to work with domestic and international technology partners. 11. Strong user of Microsoft software including Excel, Project, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Location: Wyoming, MN 2. Fast paced office environment 3. Travel as needed (less than 10%), domestic and international, travel between Polaris sites as required
