DESCRIPTION:
The Reinsurance Controls department is responsible for the accurate administration of the reinsurance treaties between Hartford Life and its reinsurers, including ensuring the data integrity of policy information on the reinsurance administration system; analyzing and implementing the terms of existing treaties; and researching and resolving primarily historical issues for internal and external business partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Successful incumbents will be responsible for providing analytical support for complex projects. Functions are highly specialized and technical in nature. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
* Handling complex new and existing reinsurance programs. Interpreting treaties and initiating appropriate systems updates. Also includes proper accounting treatment as it relates to compliance within regulatory guidelines (i.e. Schedule S).
* Accounting, reporting, and interpreting financial transactions on a periodic and ad hoc basis.
* Maintaining and improving production processes through automation efforts. Activities include but are not limited to reviewing controls reports and addressing production-related issues
* Leading, managing, or participating in specific projects requiring expertise by defining, analyzing, and identifying the impacts of the project on the company and external business partners.
* Evaluating business requirements to determine the need for and scope of business analysis to be performed. Assess impact and make recommendations on how to best service the business segments.
* Provide training and mentoring to other staff members. Directly or indirectly managing processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Previous Individual Life Reinsurance experience required.
* Proven ability to interpret and analyze treaties strongly preferred.
* Proven ability to obtain and analyze data, and make appropriate, timely decisions.
* Knowledge of Life and/or Underwriting operations.
* 4-year degree in Business/Finance/Accounting, or equivalent work experience.
* Previous experience as a team member of a cross-functional project.
* Demonstrated ability to balance the need for attention to detail, while maintaining an understanding of the "big picture".
* Proven ability to handle multiple priorities.
* Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills within the department, across multiple internal departments and with external business partners.
* Proven ability to analyze existing procedures, recommend process improvements and implement changes.
* Demonstrated ability to independently learn insurance and other complex concepts and processes quickly.
* Proficient PC skills, including Microsoft Excel, Access and Word.
* TAI system or other reinsurance system experience.
