Department Overview: OBSTETRICS 29 bed LDRP unit providing family centered care. NICU cares for gestational age 28 weeks and greater provides holistic developmental care. 24/7 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner coverage.

Primary Function:
& Major Responsibilities Assists physician as a scrub assistant for cesarean births. Cleans, stocks, and maintains labor and delivery and operating room area. Assists with clerical tasks, patient care, and patient transport and requested.

Assists physician as a scrub assistant during surgical procedures efficiently and safely.

Recognizes and maintains surgical instruments/equipment to ensure proper use and availability during surgical cases.

Performs surgical counts on all surgical procedures to ensure patient safety.

Maintains the physical environment of labor and delivery and the operating room area so that areas are always immediately ready.

Performs delegated patient care and clerical activities to assist nursing staff and promote teamwork.

Communicates effectively with physicians, coworkers, patients, and families regarding plan of care, requests, needs, and general information.

Participates in activities that contribute to improved clinical competence, personal satisfaction, and professional growth.

Utilizes resources according to departmental guidelines, policies, procedures to ensure cost containment and effectiveness.

Assists with the orientation of new staff to ensure their understanding of job duties and unit guidelines and procedures.
Qualifications: Education:
Graduate of an accredited O.R. Technician program or prior training as a scrub assistant for cesarean tification by National Board for Operating Room Technicians recommended. Current Basic Life Support certification.

Experience:
One year of operating room experience in surgery or labor and delivery setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of surgical asepsis and sterile technique.
Ability to bend, reach, or assist to transfer up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand and/or walk 80%-90% of an 8-hour shift.
Visual and hearing acuity to perform job related function adequately.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients in neonatal, adolescent, and adult age groups.
